St Aloysius College( AUTONOMOUS) has been offering the Master's Degree in Computer Applications for the last 9 years. The MCA course is affiliated to Mangalore University and is approved by AICTE, Delhi
The College has excellent infrastructure for computer studies. The new IT Building, which houses the PG courses in Computer Applications(MCA,M.Sc-SoftwareTechnology, Bioinformatics) and MBA course was inaugurated by Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the President of India on 28th March 2003.
The IT Programmes and the MBA programme have moved to the NEW CAMPUS about 12 KM from the present location. This spacious campus has state-of-the-art facilities. All the first yearMBA students are expected to stay on campus. There are paying guest facilites available very close to the new campus for the MCA students.
M.Sc (Bioinformatics) and M.Sc. (Software Technology), both affiliated to Mangalore University, are also offered since three years.
The college has an excellent rapport with computer Industry, and the successful students will be automatically absorbed by the Industry for projects and placement
COURSE CONTENT
AICS has updated the syllabus last year .. The subjects offered are Industry related, and supplemented by modules in Networking, Communication, OOPS, .NET programming and a lot of projects. Students will have hands-on experience and will be introduced to all the modern topics in computer science. Interaction with the Software Industry through talks and lectures will enhance their knowledge and thus prepare them to face the challenging world of tomorrow.

Semester VI
Industry Experience and Project Work
Students selected by the Industry during the Placement Service will join the respective firms for six months training and PROJECT WORK. A copy of the project work will have to be submitted to the University at the end of the training period. A VIVA VOCE exam will be conducted with the Guide and the external examiner on the board of examiners.
St Aloysius College offers excellent facilities for the MCA students. The centre has a huge laboratory with 200 computers working on various operating systems like Novelle 5.0, UNIX, LINUX, WINDOWS, etc. Students are exposed to all these environments along with a host of other software packages.
The Dewang Mehta Library is exclusively for the use of MCA students. The library has more than 10,000 volumes and subscribes for National and International journals.
Students also have access to broadband, highspeed Internet.
Classes are held in spacious classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids like the OHP, LCD projector and video projection system. There is also the Tele-conferencing facility of the IGNOU study centre for use
The college also has a modern Language Laboratory for teaching Indian and other Foreign languages. Students are encouraged to participate in sports and games. There are six huge grounds to play football, hockey, cricket, basket ball, kabbadi and badminton. A multigym is also there on the campus.
NEW FACILITIES
A new complex for the IT courses was inaugurated by Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the President of India on 28th march 2003. The foundation stone of the IT-Building was unveiled by Dr. Narayanamurthy, the Chairman & CEO of Infosys Technologies Ltd. on the 24th Dec. 2000.
The Blessing of the Foundation Plaque by Fr. Ronnie Prabhu s.j.The Jesuit Provincial of Karanataka Jesuit Province. Shri ShriShivaprakash Swamingalu of Jangama Mata, Gurupur also blessed the new venture. Dr. NarayanaMurthy was the chief guest.
The NEW CAMPUS for Management and IT Programmes is getting ready and fro the next academic year all these courses will be shifted to this residential facilities. The new campus spread over 17 acres of land has the ADMIN BLOCK with a auditorium, ACADEMIC BLCOK with computer labs, spacious class rooms and faculty cabins, two floors of library with air-c0nditioned reading rooms, separate residences for boys and girls, cafeteria and faculty quarters. All the first year students are expected to stay on campus.
THE PLACEMENT CELL
The Institute has constituted the Placement Cell to conduct Campus Recruitment by leading Software Companies. Placement brochure prepared will be circulated to HR of software companies and the companies are called to conduct the Aptitude tests and the Interviews. Many companies come for campus recruitment in the fifth semester in order to select students for the Project Work and job placement.
During 2003-04 our students have done their Sixth Semester MCA projects in reputed software companies like Infosys,HP Globalsoft, techspan, Oracle, IBM, TCS, Wipro, Netkraft, HCL,Mphasis, Mindtree etc.
Some students have done projects in reputed research organizations such as NAL, ISRO, NPOL-Cochin, etc.
Most of our 2004 batch of MCA students have been placed in Infosys, Integra-Micro, HP Globalsoft, techspan, DSL Software, Oracle, Proteans Software,Wipro etc.
I With the current upsurge in the IT Industry, we expect campus placements to increase, with more students getting into reputed software companies in Bangalore and elsewhere.
Every Aloysian is expected to be excellent intellectually and should become competent person in the field of his choice. But St Aloysius College, in keeping with the motto , "Lucet et Ardet" which means "shines and burns", would like every student to be conscientious, compassionate and committed to the less fortunate brethern of our country.
In order to help every Aloysian to achieve this end, the Institute encourages student participation in various curricular, co-curricular and extra- curricular activities.
The Institute, on regular basis, organizes, courses in Personality Development for the personal growth of students. The faculty of the Business Management, and other experts in the field are called to conduct such programmes. Training in Problem solving, Aptitude Tests, Group Discussion (GD ) are part of the regular schedule. Right from the first semester, students are expected to particiapte in presentations, seminars and discussions.
The Institute organizes Outreach programmes for students. At the end of the third semester students are taken to rural places to experience the life of simple village folk. Every student is expected to participate in such programmes. The programme also involves visit and working in orphanages and homes for the destitute and aging. It is followed by reflection. Classes on Business Ethics are also part of the schedule.
Students of MCA organize EPITOME, the All India level computer festival and ANVEEKSHA, the National Level Technical Paper presentation symposium. The organization of such events trains our students to acquire organizational skills, skills in team work, communicative skills which are very important for the future computer professionals. Our students have successfully organized such programmes since 2000.
Students are also encouraged to take part in fest conducted by other colleges. Our students have won championship trophies in some of the fest they participated.
Every year the MCA students conduct the MCA Day.The objective of MCA day is to help students relax and be "at home". A lot of competitions are conducted involving the staff and the students. This programme is not only to entertain students but also give an opportunity to display their talents. Proficiency certifictes are distributed during the formal function.
Online Tests
To prepare MCA students to face the recruitment tests conducted by software companies, ONLINE APTITUDE TESTS and TECH TESTS are conducted on regular basis. To improve communication skills training programme in Spoken English is organized.
